Questions we are asked most

Straight answers, including the awkward ones.

If something is missing here, ring the desk. Nobody on the other end works from a script, and nobody is measured on how quickly they end the call.

01

Staying here

Do I have to go anywhere near the gaming floor?
No. It sits at the north end of the ground floor behind two doors, off the route between the entrance, the lift, the restaurants and the spa. Many guests spend a week here without opening it. Ask at check-in and we will leave it off your key card and stop mentioning it.
Is the building suitable for children?
Yes, in every part except the gaming floor and the lounge after nine in the evening. Cots and high chairs are free, children under ten eat free in the Glasshouse, and the pool is open to guests aged 16 and over — under 18s before 19:00.
What time can I get into a room, and how late can I stay?
Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 12:00. Later departures are usually possible and usually free; ask the evening before. Bags are held on either side at no charge, and the shower off the spa changing room is open to you after you have checked out.
Is the spa an extra cost?
Not for anyone staying in the house. Pool, saunas, steam room, gym, robes, boots and boats are all included in the room rate. Treatments in the four rooms are charged separately.
How quiet is quiet, really?
Party walls were doubled during the conversion, every door is solid core with a drop seal, and the plant, the loading bay and the gaming floor all sit under the same slab at the far end. Quiet hours run 22:30–07:30 and are enforced by a person, not a sign. If a room disappoints you on this, we will move you that night.
02

The gaming floor

What is the minimum age?
Eighteen, with photo identification, checked every time you enter — including guests, including regulars, including people the hosts recognise. There are no exceptions and nobody at the door has the authority to make one.
What games are there?
Eight tables — blackjack, roulette and a weekend poker table — and thirty-two machines. Minimum and maximum stakes are posted at each table and on each machine before you commit anything. Hosts will teach you any game from the beginning, at an empty table, for as long as it takes.
Can I get cash or credit inside?
Cash is exchanged at the desk during floor hours. Credit is never extended, in any form, to anyone. There is no cash machine on the gaming floor — that is a deliberate choice, not an oversight — and the nearest one is in the lobby.
How do I set a limit or exclude myself?
At the cash desk, in under five minutes, free, and effective at once. Deposit, loss and time limits can be set for a day, a month or indefinitely. Self-exclusion runs from one month to permanent, and once it is on file we cannot lift it early even if you ask us to — which is the point of it.
Do you offer bonuses, free play or loyalty rewards?
No. There are no bonuses, no comped play, no membership tiers and no promotional material anywhere on the property. Hosts are salaried and take no share of what a table makes, so nobody here has a reason to keep you in that chair.
Will you tell me if I have been there too long?
Yes. Hosts are trained to offer a break, a plate of food and a glass of water, and are instructed never to argue you out of taking one. If we are worried, the duty manager will say so privately and directly.
03

Getting here and paying

Is there parking?
Twenty-two free spaces in the yard, two accessible bays by the courtyard door and four chargers. The quay itself floods at spring tides, so use the yard.
Do you charge a resort or booking fee?
No. The rate covers the room, breakfast, the spa, parking, the boats and the walking gear. What you are quoted is what appears on the bill.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free until 48 hours before arrival; one night charged after that. Cards are held, not charged, until departure. Illness and cancelled trains are dealt with by a human being rather than a policy.
Can I bring a dog?
Two dogs stay at a time, in the courtyard rooms, at no extra charge. They are welcome in the lounge and the Glasshouse, and not in the spa or the dining room.
Do you host weddings or conferences?
No conferences. Small gatherings of up to fourteen in the cellar room, and occasionally a family dinner that fills the Salt Room. Anything larger than that would break the thing this house is for.
